TitlePage is launching a major upgrade in August 2026. This article reflects features and workflows of the new version of TitlePage. If you’re using the legacy platform, some information may not yet apply.
Advanced Search allows users to find and discover titles on TitlePage using detailed metadata fields and filters, with more control than a quick search. It supports filtering across subject codes, supply, and descriptive fields, with additional control through global settings and post-search filters, making it the primary tool for more precise searching and browsing.
Who this is for
This information is intended for TitlePage users who:
- Need to locate specific titles using detailed criteria.
- Want to browse titles within a subject or category.
- Need to filter results using publisher, format, availability, or other metadata.
Overview
Advanced Search allows you to find titles using specific metadata fields and combine multiple criteria to refine results.
Unlike Quick Search, which searches broadly across multiple fields, Advanced Search gives you control over how results are filtered. You can apply filters across subject classification, supply information, and descriptive metadata to narrow results.
This is useful when you need to:
- Find titles within a specific subject or category.
- Filter by publisher, format, or availability.
- Search within a publication date range.
- Combine multiple criteria to locate specific titles.
Accessing Advanced Search
You can access Advanced Search in the following ways:
- Use the search panel on the home page and run a search.
- Click Search in the main navigation menu.
Search structure
The Advanced Search page is organised into the following sections:
- Core search – basic fields such as ISBN, title, and contributor.
- Classification – subject searching using Thema and qualifiers.
- Supply – publisher, format, and availability filters.
- Descriptive detail – additional metadata such as awards, language, and contributor attributes.
You can also apply Global settings to control what is included or excluded across all results.
After running a search, additional filters can be applied to further refine results. For more information, see TitlePage Filters.
Classification (subject searching)
The Classification section allows you to search for titles by subject using Thema and refine results using additional filters.
Subject (Thema)
- Select one or more subject categories. Type to filter by Thema code or label, or browse the hierarchy.
- ANY returns titles matching at least one selected subject.
- ALL returns titles matching all selected subjects.
- Main subject only limits results to the primary Thema subject assigned to the title.
Qualifiers
- Refine results using additional context such as place, language, time period, educational purpose, interest, or style.
- Select one or more values per qualifier. Add multiple qualifier rows to combine different qualifier types.
- ANY returns titles matching at least one qualifier.
- ALL returns titles matching all selected qualifiers.
Audience
- Filter by audience type, for example children's, young adult, or adult.
Interest age
- Filter by reader age range using From and/or To values.
Australian curriculum
- Filter titles aligned to the Australian Curriculum. May include filtering by level or state where available.
Subject searching is useful for browsing within a category, narrowing results to a specific topic, or discovering related titles. Because publishers can assign multiple subject codes to a title, a single title may appear in more than one subject category.
Supply
The Supply section allows you to filter titles based on publisher, format, availability, and distribution information.
Product form
- Filter by format, for example paperback, hardback, ebook, or audio. You can select a broad category or a specific product form.
Publisher
- Search for the publishing house.
Imprint
- Filter by imprint.
Local agent
- Filter by the organisation responsible for AU/NZ representation.
Publication date
- Filter titles within a publication date range using From and/or To.
AU/NZ distributor
- Filter by the distributor supplying the title in Australia or New Zealand.
Availability status
- Filter by availability, for example forthcoming, available, or out of stock. You can select a general status or a specific availability value.
Publishing status
- Filter by publishing lifecycle status, for example active or out of print.
Descriptive detail
The Descriptive detail section allows you to filter titles using additional descriptive metadata.
Contributor country
- Filter titles where at least one contributor is from a selected country.
Indigenous contributor
- Filter titles where a contributor has been identified as Indigenous. Note: this field is not widely populated yet and may return limited results.
Award
